CHAPTER 29: THE SKY HIGHS

  • 3 Oct, 2026

The unseasonal December rain lashed against the floor-to-ceiling windows of the sixty-second floor did not sound like a storm; behind the three-inch-thick acoustic glass of the Goenka Enterprises boardroom, it sounded like a distant, polite whisper.

Reyansh Goenka stood at the head of the long mahogany table, his silhouette cutting a sharp, unforgiving line against the bruised purple skyline of Mumbai. When did I ever want that?

At twenty-one, she had a plan. A new city. A new job. A fresh start. She was going to make the most of it this time. Become more confident. Try things she'd never tried before. Meet people. Build a life that felt like hers. Five years later, she would find herself standing in a very different place. Older. A little wiser. Maybe a little more tired. And surrounded by possibilities she once thought she wanted. Only now, she couldn't understand why she ever wanted them in the first place. When did I ever want that?
